Look Alive, Bright Eyes: Getting Your Eye Game On Point

seo-img-article

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, that would make the eyebrows the…window frames to the soul, maybe? Either way, you can’t have a window without a window frame, much like the same way that your eyes can’t reach their full bright-eyed perfection without backup from the eyelashes and eyebrows. This holiday season, get your peepers to look their best by giving your eyebrows and eyelashes a little love.

Eyelashes by Tokyo Belle

Maybe you’ve read about Tokyo Belle in these pages before, but recently I tried them out for myself to see what the fuss was all about. Eyelash extensions are completely uncharted territory for me, mostly because I believe there’s nothing that a little bit (or a lot) of mascara can’t fix. Boy, was I wrong!

I was invited to the brand new Tokyo Belle store at Lippo Mal Kemang, and given the option between four different styles of extensions. The process was completely painless and irritant-free; I even found the time to doze off somewhere in the middle of the 1.5 hour-long application process! The beauty technician meticulously applied a total of 60-70 eyelashes on my upper eyelid, just fractions of a milimeter away from my real eyelash roots.

Here’s the before-and-after photo:

tokyo belle 1I was given a couple of straightforward tips on how to care for my Disney Princess-like lashes, which were expected to last up to three weeks with proper care:

  • No contact with water for 24 hours after application
  • Avoid hot showers and saunas for 24 hours
  • No waterproof mascara and oil-based eye makeup removers
  • No rubbing of the eyes! You shouldn’t do this anyway, it’s a terrible habit that contributes to fine lines and crow’s feet

Other than that, it was pretty much business as usual. I could shower, sleep, and apply makeup as usual, and and here’s how it looked after a week of daily wear and tear:

IMG_0333 Still looks pretty dang good, no? I have never received so many compliments about my eyelashes in a single week, and it was so great to be able to literally live out a Beyonce song by telling people that no, I’m not wearing any mascara — and yes, pleb. Yes, I woke up like this.

At Tokyo Belle, you can choose from a comprehensive menu of services that include slimming and IPL (intense pulsed light), otherwise popularly known as “laser hair removal.” I tried out their patented IPL machine to remove the fine facial hairs on my face, and that too ended up being a completely pain-free experience. The beauty technician did say that I would feel sensations akin to a small rubber band being snapped across my skin, but I felt absolutely no discomfort during the entire time my hair shafts were being zapped.
