Immortelle: The Everlasting Flower Harnessed by L'Occitane

seo-img-article

What Is It – L’Occitane Immortelle Line

  • Immortelle Precious Cream
  • Immortelle Precious Night Cream, and
  • Immortelle Essential Water For The Face

The Claims – Immortelle is L’Occitane’s anti-aging line. Immortelle, known as the “everlasting” flower, is a shrub found in the south of France with small yellow flowers. A member of the sunflower family, Immortelle has remarkable anti-aging properties, making it an excellent skin care ingredient. It is best known for its cell-regenerating properties which can help heal stretch marks, dermatitis, acne abscesses and skin wounds. L’Occitane uses Immortelle by extracting the essential oils extracted from the flowers to stimutale new cell growth, and helps to correct and prevent all elements of aging.

L’Occitane has two sub-lines for Immortelle: the classic line, carrying the most products in blue packaging, and the higher end, Divine, in yellow packaging.

Packaging
– The Precious Cream and Precious Night Cream come in glass pot, while the Essential Water comes in a plastic bottle. The formulation of both creams is rich, with the Night Cream richer than the classic Precious. The Essential Water is packed in a plastic bottle with screw cap and squirt stopper.

FormulationOf course, all three products feature extract from Immortelle flower in different forms. The creams boast:

  • Immortelle Cell Extract – a new and improved extract from Immortelle flower earned L’Occitane another patent. It boosts the natural occurring mechanisms that aid your skin’s ability to correct deep wrinkles and maintain elasticity and smoothness. The result promised is a firmer and smoother skin.
  • Ruscus and Holly extracts – help lighten dark areas and relieve puffiness.

The Essential Water For The Face contains Green Tea and Centella Asiatica extracts to tone and firm the skin, respectively.

The Review – The individual review of the products are ordered by preference:

The Precious Cream – I can understand now what this is one of L’Occitane best sellers. This product feels luxurious and rich, but not too rich for my combination-dehydrated skin. It is smooth and dries quickly. I don’t notice any added oiliness during the day. I really like the texture of my skin after applying this product, I sometimes hesitate to add on makeup! I’ve tried using this for day or night, and I am equally pleased with either application.

The Essential Water for the Face – I like that this is alcohol-free and non-tingling. It does the job well to remove traces of makeup and facial dirt. How do I know this? I recently had my chin cut (vacation hazard, I should say), and I owed this toner for removing daily impurities and makeup traces from the surrounding injured area because it could not come in contact with water for a few days.

The Precious Night Cream – the night cream version is so much richer than the classic one. I have to admit that it is a little bit too rich for my skin as it does not dry out as smooth as the one above. I believe that more mature or drier skin type can love this cream more than I do, while those with oily or combination type may be better off using the classic Precious Cream, because it sinks better and do not add oiliness to the face.

I get dry patches on my skin, and I am more prone to these on some days than the others. Usually when I spend too much time in air-conditioned environment (I’m blaming those hectic days in the office when I am continuously confined in my cold office for hours). Using a combination of the three products, dry patches of my skin, usually visible in the forehead and side of my temples, are remedied within a day or two. I should also say that the fragrance of the products is subtle and non offensive. I do not remember being ever distracted by the fragrance.

How Much – The prices per L’Occitane Indonesia website:

  • Precious Cream: Rp 685,000 for 50 ml
  • Precious Night Cream: Rp 900,000 for 50 ml
  • Essential Water For The Face: Rp 300,000 for 100 ml

What Can Be Improved – I am not thrilled of the cream’s packaging. The narrow neck pot makes it a little awkward to scoop out product out, especially when you are nearing the bottom of the pot.

The Verdict – In general, I am quite pleased with the Immortelle line. I would say that the repurchase factor is the highest with the Precious Cream, as I can see using this for both day and night cream. The results of the other two products are good but not exceptional. They definitely do the job, but the judge is still out there. For a toner, Essential Water’s price tag is a bit high for my budget, but if you have sensitive skin who can’t take just any toner out there, this may be one for you because of its gentle formulation.
