Using Hairspray to Style Your Hair: Yay or Nay?

seo-img-article

If you think hairspray is a way of the past, well, you’re mistaken. There are times where I would turn to hairspray to rescue my bad hair day. I used to loveĀ GHD Creation Spray, but I purchased mine at Harvey Nichols and they now are closed down, I couldn’t find this product anymore. So I haven’t used hairspray for awhile.

But Nopai, who considers hairspray as one of her must-have items (and she even keeps one on her desk at work) has convinced me that I need to have one too! She exclaimed that it’s an essential item to keep your hairstyle in place.

I’m curious, whether any other FD-ers feel the same way like Nopai? Do you think having a hairspray is essential?

I think many despise hairspray because in the old days people always associate it with hair that looks stiff and it leaves white residue on the hair. On the contrary, a good hairspray product shouldn’t do both.

What constitute as a good hairspray? They should:

  • Dry to a niceĀ transparentĀ finish without leaving any residue (especially white, dandruff like residue, yuck!).
  • Allow you to run your fingers through your hair strand even after the hairspray dries.
  • Let your style to be restyle the next day without washing your hair first.
  • Most importantly, your hair still looking natural without any stiffness in sight.

Want to know what hairsprays we are using? Well, here are what Nopai and I used, since we are the only two people that use it in the office šŸ™‚

Nopai:

What? Schwarzkopf Silhouette Hairspray Super Hold

I use this product to keep my short and a little bit messy style in shape. Like the name of the product, it holds the style for the whole day. But it doesn’t make my clump nor looks stiff. The next day, or even in the afternoon, if I comb my hair, I can still do it with ease. It has that slight hairspray product scent, but it doesn’t bother me much.

Costs around Rp 160,000 at major supermarkets, such as The Food Hall and Ranch Market.

Me:

What? L’Oreal Professionnel Tecni Art Air Fix Extra-Strong Fixing Spray

I like this hairspray because it is able to add extra volume to my hair. Usually I would spray the product to the inside part of my hair, nearing the hair root, to create a little bit of volume. I also use it at the bottom part of my hair to keep my layers in the direction that I want, as much as I want to let my hair fall naturally, I hate it when it looks like rambut bebek šŸ˜€

I tend to go overboard with hairspray. Surprisingly it doesn’t tangle up my hair and the next day I still can style my hair differently. No white residue, filmsy feeling and stiffness. Definitely a keeper šŸ™‚

You can only get this product at professional hairdresser for Rp 140,000.

So, what do you think? Is hairspray a yay or nay?
