I think you’ve noticed that in the last couple of months we have two new contributors joining Fashionese Daily crew. Naturally, the two of them are members of Female Daily forum. Our new contributors are Nisa and Laila, which you might be more familiar with their screen name; Ketupatkartini (we often call her Kekar, LOL) and Leija respectively.
Nisa is a long time member of Female Daily who is also the moderator of Muslim Outfitters. It’s no surprise then that Nisa is now responsible for articles related to Muslim Fashion and everything in between.
Whereas Laila, a journalist, blogger and fashion enthusiast, will be responsible for giving you the heads up on what’s happening in the fashion industry. Of course, being a member of Female Daily, it’s unavoidable that she’s starting to become a beauty junky too!
Let’s get to know them a little better!
Right: Nisa, Left: Laila
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Nisa: Instead of words, I used to deal with numbers yes I’m an accountant, and lucky enough to experience this field of work for almost 3 years before I decided to be a freelancer. Having such exposure from writers and editors in my previous job (I used to work in a book publisher), and my longtime enthusiasm in writing led me to take some project based job in ICT company that caters on generate online magazine, e-learning content editor and website project.
Laila: I’m just an ordinary short person (153 cm to be exact) who happens to love too many things in life, including but not limited to: my fat-bellied husband, comedy in any form, international airports and airplane foods, Asian food, blogs, runways, taking pictures, and most of all, writing.
How/when did your passion for fashion start?
Nisa: Until my early 20’s I didn’t realize it and I was not really into fashion, I just found that I always wanted to look different. That’s when I plunged into FD, everything that interested me before suddenly made sense
Laila: I have to say, I’m not a fashion expert nor a fashionista per se, but I do love, love, love beautiful things, including fashion with all its craftsmanship, art, unexplainable coolness, and magic. That’s why I can’t just watch the fashion world goes by. I have to capture it with my writings and photographs.
Describe your style in 5 words
Nisa: Casually covered, modern twist and unexpected
Laila: Can I just describe it in three words? Cuek-cuek-butuh, a.k.a. effortless, but still wants to catch attention with one or two statement items. Or with just my overall swag
How and where did you hear about Fahionese Daily for the first time?
Nisa: From a women’s magazine, around 4 years ago they had an information about FD blog which was only a little square space at the corner of the page. I was curious, signed up as a member and I was like, woooow… I had been missing a lot of things! Since then FD become my addiction, even I still remember when my husband and son used to make this silly talk and jingle when I was op caught up mingling in the forum :p
Laila: Circa 2008-09, I was Googling about skincare and dermatologists, and Google brought me to Female Daily forums. But after I got the information that I needed, I actually forgot about Female Daily for a while (whoops!). But then I realized that most Google searches I made about women issues always led me back to Female Daily! I then explored the site and forum, which turned out to be really informative indeed, and the rest is history.
What made you interested in writing for Fashionese Daily?
Nisa: As a forum member, I enjoyed initiating discussions or making review. When the opportunity came for me to make some contribution to the FD blog, of course I was excited! I have this opportunity to get into something I love. I’ve never ‘seriously’ written something about fashion before, and here I challenge myself to do it. Especially in Muslim fashion, lucky for us to witness the emerging trends in this business, and I want to be a part of it by writing it.
Laila: I knew from the start that Fashionese Daily’s writing style suits mine. It’s informative, clear, but also laid-back and fun. Plus, FD is all about one thing that I know best–women! So when the opportunity arose, I knew I had to grab it.
Any other hobbies?
Nisa: I love outdoor activities, especially mountain climbing! I’ve reached 7 mountain peak (in Central and East Java), and counting, hopefully! Haven’t got to do it again since I have kids, but truly pray my husband will allow me to do it again, someday
Laila: Photography and blogging, of course. Oh, and lately, trying out new make up looks, thanks to the endless, endless poisons of Female Daily forums. Help!
How does being part of the team feel like so far?
Nisa: Yaaay! All this time FD has always been a huge inspiration for me, and now surrounded by people behind it? I’m grateful. I can make the most out of my time, always being there with my kids, and being part of FD as part of me time!
Laila: I used to imagine that FD ladies are more like Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada (a.k.a. meanies). I think it’s a common presumption for an all-female company, hahaha! But since the first time I came for the job interview, FD team has proven me wrong. Everyone is nice, friendly, and super helpful! I feel proud and honored to be a part of this company.
Oh, and working here literally changed my perception towards makeup overnight. Literally. Before I joined you guys, I only have one eyeshadow palette with just one sad sponge-tip applicator. Fast forward two months later, the palette multiplies to five. Plus a brush set. *faints*
Well, we have heard of similar stories countless time before, Lei. And we’re sorry to say, it will get worse
Anyway, welcome to the team, Nisa & Leija! We are also proud to have talented ladies like you both in our troops!
