Bukan hanya skin care atau makeup, K-Beauty juga sudah mulai mengguncang dunia nail art. Mengikuti tren ini, Sally Hansen meluncurkan K-Design nail stickers, yang malah dituduh adalah hasil plagiat. Lho?
Inspirasi atau imitasi, where do we really draw the line? Sally Hansen, brand yang terkenal untuk produk kukunya, telah terjerat kontroversi setelah dituduh “mencuri” desain-desain Park Eun Kyung, nail artist asal Korea.
Long story short, Park Eun Kyung adalah pemilik salon nail art Unistella, yang telah mempopulerkan tren Korean nails seperti glass nails, tattoo nails dan wire nails. Desainnya yang unik juga sudah diakui Vogue, Teen Vogue, Refinery29 dan InStyle. Tahun lalu, Sally Hansen sempat mengajak Park untuk berkolaborasi, which she replied she was open to, dan ingin berdiskusi lebih. Tapi, Park tidak pernah mendengar kabar dari pihak Sally Hansen, sampai baru-baru ini mereka meluncurkan koleksi “K-Design” yang hampir identik dengan desain karya Park. Waduh?!

Park langsung menghubungi Sally Hansen, and got this as a reply:
“The designs we launched as part of this collection are not your designs. As I’m sure you are aware, basic shapes such as hearts, lips and wavy lines, or patterns resembling broken glass, are not ownable.”

Melalui postingan di Instagram, Park memperlihatkan perbandingan gambar-gambar hasil rancangannya dengan desain milik Sally Hansen. Isu ini menjadi sorotan netizens, dan banyak yang langsung memberi dukungan ke Park, termasuk supermodel Irene Kim dan personil Girl’s Day, Min Ah. Akun Instagram @sally_hansen pun dibanjiri protes untuk memboikot produk-produk Sally Hansen.

Seperti yang dilansir oleh Racked.com, pihak Sally Hansen sudah mengeluarkan official statement berikut:
“Recently, we launched a K-Beauty Design Kit, a trend-driven product we’re proud of and one that has been in the making for quite some time. Any time we develop a new product, we look for emerging trends and at many sources. We consult third-party trend forecasts, work with internal and external creative teams, seek the advice of suppliers, and employ extensive social listening methodologies. As a top nail design influencer, Eun Kyung was certainly an inspiration, as she is for the entire nail art world. But she was not the only, nor the first, source of excitement around these trends that have more than 125,000 references on Instagram alone, with posts dating as far back as 2012. We admire Eun Kyung’s talent and are sorry if she feels anything less than our admiration for her work.”
Sejauh ini, Park masih belum ada rencana untuk menuntut, dan hanya ingin Sally Hansen untuk meminta maaf dan berhenti menjual produk-produk dalam koleksi “K-Design” ini. “Saya punya integritas yang harus dijaga sebagai seniman dan faktanya saya yang memiliki ide-ide ini.
