The Never-Ending Plastic Surgery Debacle

Then I ran into something quite incredible. Check out these photographs of South Korean beauty pageant entrants in the 1970s:

I was floored to see these photos. Modern plastic surgery as we know it really took off after World War I, so it’s hard to say for sure if these particular women have had any work done on them or not. They very well might have had nose bridges altered or had a little bit of fat removed here and there, but not to an extreme extent that sendt us reeling, like the work Heidi Montag did (and which she regretted later on).

Cosmetic plastic surgery will continue to be a burning topic for years to come, and plastic surgeons will always be in business as long as our societal and personal perceptions of beauty continue to fluctuate. If you think plastic surgery will boost your self-confidence, then go for it. Always do your research and make sure you are in the hands of a reputable and qualified doctor. Going with an unlicensed plastic surgeon can result in irreversible botched work or even death.

But don’t do it if you feel you have to fit into a particular “look” that happens to be in. Like fashion, beauty trends fall in and out of season all the time. Sculpted cheekbones might be in one year, but cheeks plump with baby fat might be the big thing the next year. Sawing off your facial bones is an extreme permanent solution to a superficial and temporary fad. There’s nothing makeup can’t do, so try to alter your appearance with a brush and some makeup first before going under the knife.
