Reaching New Goals at HaloFitRun, My First 5K Race

This post is written by a girl who just last year could not complete a five-minute run. It never occurred to me that a year later, I would actually enjoy running in the outdoors. My exercising mostly takes place at the gym, doing strength and weight training, but I run once a week. It has become a family tradition where we either go to Gelora Bung Karno or Car Free Day on a weekend where my son would ride his bike while my daughter enjoys her scooter. Running has given me time to be alone with my thoughts, to contemplate, and just to basically converse with myself. What I love about it is how personal it is, and how simple it is to keep track of: you’re not competing with anyone, you run at your own pace, and compete with your own personal best. And even if it’s a only one minute faster or a few meters further, progress is still progress.

So there I was, finally running my first 5K race :D. I would say it was fine–I clocked in the 5k at 39:26 or something, which is still within my goal to reach the finish line in under forty minutes. Maybe next time I can aim at the 35 – 37 minute range? If you like running, come talk more about it in our #FitNFab forum section here.
