A Glimpse of Maison Martin Margiela

seo-img-article

What comes across your mind when you hear “Maison Martin Margiela”?  Most would scream H&M! 😀 That’s correct, Maison Martin Margiela has just launched its collection for H&M. Margiela’s well executed campaign before the launch, the “Silent Manifesto” was quite experimental but has shown the world the essence of “Maison Martin Margiela”.

Let’s get to know a little about Maison Martin Margiela so we can enjoy his H&M collection even more!  A quick history about Mr. Margiela- he went to Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Yes, the school where many Belgian best designers went to, such as the great Ann Demeulemeester and the awesome Dries van Noten, just to name a few. Margiela then became Jean Paul Gaultier’s assistant before he launched his own label in 1989. He made Rei Kawakubo of Commes Des Garcons as one of his inspirations and has been known for recycling garments. Aside from his ground- breaking, deconstructive and transformative designs, he’s also been appointed as Hermès creative director for women’s line for 7 years.

Margiela has been known as “Invisible Man” in fashion because he’s never made any personal appearance, always avoided face-to-face interviews, only communicated via fax. Yeah fax!  He’s never been photographed, no one knows what he looks like and he’s never made an appearance on the runway due to his belief that a collection should speak for itself and that a collection is a product of a collaborative team, and never one person. A very remarkable personality, isn’t it?

Behind the numeric trademark

Oh, did you know that back then, there were no labels sewn on the garment?  10 years ago, the labels were sewn with four signature stitches, without the brand name printed on it. It has only Margiela’s numeric trademark, which also was implemented on all of his shops sign, except one in Los Angeles. He also makes all his staff wears white lab coats, simply to identify them as a part of Maison Margiela team. Even the appointed models, were also remains unknown when they come walking down the runaway wearing a mask. You see, everything about Maison Martin Margiela is all about the details. It’s like one whole creative concept that’s tied to one another. Check out their website, here and you will know what I mean 🙂

Maison Martin Margiela Fall 2012

I honestly think that Margiela is a no ordinary person and Maison Martin Margiela is a no ordinary brand. He values his team so much, he’s never been the one who takes all the credit for himself and when he left, until this day Maison Martin Margiela exists with no creative director! Extraordinary is the only word that best describes Maison Martin Margiela.

So now ladies, please enjoy your Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection! 😀
