Dare to Splash Some (Ox)blood?

seo-img-article

Try to Google oxblood, and you will find many entries about this color, and all related to this Fall’s collection! From Jason Wu, Peter Som, YSL and the promising Alexander Wang, they go  dark, deep and sexy with this rich and mysterious color. Some said it’s ‘the new black’, but I think that’s overrated. And some also thought this was a creepy choice of word (yes, actually the first thing come up in my mind upon acknowledging this color was, blood splatter!). Well, maybe this was inspired by the whole vampire obsession led by the popular Twilight Saga movies and True Blood TV series.

Oxblood is a dark brownish-red color, or a red wine color, formerly used as one of pantone colors. So why can’t we just call it wine color? Or burgundy? Because true oxblood – which sounds like a great title for new TV series 😀 –  has a hint of brown, not just a wine red.

So, how to wear it? If you think this color only belongs to older people, because it exudes emotions such as sorrow and without spark of happiness? Don’t be! This color is born to be outstanding, especially in richly-textured outfit. And I think this color will be much better on those with fair complexion.

Need a few recommendations and style inspirations? Below are few of my picks and the looks that inspire me to go to the oxblood direction.

Naturally, this color is meant for textured fabric, like velvet or leather. That’s why I immediately fall in love with these leather pencil skirt from ASOS and River Island fluffy sweater.

Going monochrome in oxblood? That’s one of the ways to nail this trend.

What better way to find inspiration than from the streets of New York!

What convinced me more that this trend needs a second look, is when I saw the quote of a fashion blogger, da fashionista, on this trend.

“Oxblood is kinda “the new black”. The color is very refined and rich. I love how the monochromatic color creates a sense of mystery and seduction.  The great thing about this color is that it looks amazing on all skin tones and complexions. It’s also a flattering color for all body types. This should be everyone woman’s color this Fall.” – Obvious magazine

“I was thrilled when I realized in late summer, burgundy was going to be THE color for fall. When a few weeks later, the fashion universe was calling it “oxblood” I was grossed out. What Pantone-crazy came up with this? Who wants to conjure up the idea of slaughtered livestock when getting dressed. Can’t believe PETA hasn’t jumped all over this one…”
