Do you want to witness the history of Indonesian fashion from 25 years ago until now?
Have you ever wished to see the real object of Indonesian designers’ masterpieces and how they were made?
If you answer yes to most of the questions above, then I insist you to come and see IPMI(Ikatan Perancang Mode Indonesia)‘s “Confashion” at Promenade Area on the Ground Floor of Senayan City that is held from January 13 to 23. Confashion is like a mini museum of fashion, since it reflects the journey of its designers from 1986 to 2011.
Some of IPMI designers that presented their creations at Confashion includes these big names: Adrianto Halim, Barli Asmara, Carmanita, Chossy Latu, Didy Budhiharjo, Eddy Betty, Era Soekamto, Edward Hutabarat, Ghea Panggabean, Itang Yunasz, Oscar Lawalata, Priyo Oktaviono and Sally Koeswanto.
Browsing through Confashion offers you a compilation of various fashion shows. As I started being fashion reporter last year, I just recognized some attires that have been presented in 2010; such as Denny Wirawan‘s red military-inspired outfit (photo above) that I spotted in Bazaar Fashion Concerto last year, Adesagi Kierana‘s lovely dress (photo below, left) seen at the last Jakarta Fashion Week and Ari Seputra‘s orange tribal dress (photo below, right) in Bazaar Fashion Concerto too.
If you are curious about the trend in past years, you can also find other attires that represent the era. You’ll get the clue about the designer and the year an attire was made from a piece of paper attached to the mannequin’s hand. Some mannequins are holding invitations of the fashion shows where the attires were showcased, as you can see from the photos below:
A collection of shoes and a table full of makeup products (from Martha Tilaar’s PAC) are also displayed. Fashion is never complete without them.
As I said above, Confashion also explains the process of how designer’s dream is transformed into a masterpiece. From a replica of designers’ office (photo below), you can see a desk full of fashion design tool, a wall fashion sketches, fashion collages, certificates of appreciation and also fashion awards from many institutions. Here the designer turns the idea into sketches.
The workshop (photo below) is reflected as a room full of colorful fabric, threads, pattern and sewing machines. This is where the designer executes the sketches and creates the dress.

Seeing such a great fashion exhibition, I really hope this event will be held annually and grow bigger and bigger. Maybe a bigger space and bigger number of displays in the future? That would be nice 🙂
