body-oil-730895I must admit, when Estee Lauder launched its Tom Ford Azuree collection many months ago, I wasn’t too interested in checking it out. I saw some of the colors on their website and thought there wasn’t anything worth buying. But then I read more and more about one particular item in this collection that was a huge hit – The Body Oil. Apparently, in the US, this spray-on scented oil flew off the shelves as soon as they hit the counters.
A few words on the review caught my attention. Beach-inspired scent. Body oil. Gleaming skin that smells heavenly like you’ve been hanging out at the beach in Cote D’Azur. Okay, I’m sold. I went to the nearest Estee Lauder counter as soon as possible and was happy to learn that thay still had plenty in stock! (I’m guessing body oil doesn’t do very well in a humid place like Jakarta). The thing is, the price tag was Rp. 310.000. Pretty steep. So I let the sales assistant sprayed some on my wrist. I smelled it. Thought about it. Smelled it some more. Went home and tried to forget about it and later realized that I couldn’t. So I went back to the counter and surrender my credit card.
The body oil really does smell beautiful. The notes are tiare milk accord, tahitian gardenia, coconut, orange blossom and warmed with vetiver, myrrh and sandalwood. When I first sprayed it on, I was a bit taken aback by the sharpness of one particular note. I think it was the vetiver or the myrrh. It was quite spicy and reminded me of a smell you find in one of those mosquito-repellent lotion. Don’t let that turn you off though. Because as soon as the oil was absorbed into my skin, I got this amazing sweet, creamy, coconutty smell and my skin feels very smooth! The oil does not leave any sticky or oily residue and the smell lasts quite a long time.
I haven’t yet tried mixing it with any perfume, I always wear it on its own. But since the scent of this body oil is not too strong, I’m guessing layering it with your favorite perfume (preferrably a summery, beach-inspired one too) won’t cause a headache.
So all in all, I’m quite happy with this purchase. Yes, it’s not cheap. But everytime I wear it, I feel like some beach goddess in tunics, bikini and flip flops – all tan and happy embracing a whole day of sun, sand and surf – even if where I was really going was my office!
